About us

Faversham in Bloom is a group of people who care about Faversham, enjoy living here and want to make it an even better place to live, work and visit.  We all share a desire to make Faversham a greener and more floral town.  We are volunteers who bring together our different skills, ideas and energies for the benefit of the whole community.  We are a group that really can and does make a difference.

Each year we enter Faversham in the prestigious South and South East in Bloom competition and from 2010 to 2014 we have won the coveted Silver Gilt award.  The judges assess the town as a whole rather than judge individual gardens or displays.  Their judging report is a valuable guide for making appropriate and sustainable improvements.  We are always ready to listen to suggestions as to how we can do even more for Faversham and all are welcome to put their ideas to us for consideration.

It is widely accepted that a successful 'In Bloom' town is one which attracts both visitors and tourists and it has been proven that it has a positive effect on how people feel and their well being. People are more active in their community, the area is more cared for and this improves the value of homes and attracts visitors and  business. We are fully supported by both Swale Borough Council and Faversham Town Council who fully understand the benefits to the area of being involved with the in Bloom competitions.

Part of the community

Faversham in Bloom has close links with numerous voluntary and community organisations within the town and many are represented on our committee.  They include:

  • Abbey Physic Community Garden
  • Abel's Acre
  • Faversham Enterprise Partnership
  • Faversham Horticultural Society
  • Faversham Open House scheme
  • Faversham Rotary Club
  • Millfield Allotments
  • North Preston Allotments
  • Oare Gunpowder Works Country Park
  • Stonebridge Allotments
  • The Abbey School
  • The Faversham Society
  • Transition Town Faversham

We are grateful for the financial contributions from Faversham Town Council and our sponsors, Macknade Fine Foods and Brian Kelsey Accountants as well as support in kind from Swale Borough Council, Blenwood Grounds Maintenance and Swale in Bloom.  We use our funds to carry out a continuing programme of tree, shrub and bulb planting as well as funding summer floral displays in the town centre.

Competitions

Each year, we organise the popular and hotly-contested Front Garden Competition.  Our teams of volunteer judges look at every garden in the town during July.  A shortlist is drawn up from their results and from that, the final judging is carried out by experienced judges from outside the town.  The award ceremony is held in early September in the tranquil surroundings of the Abbey Physic Community Garden, always a well-attended and enjoyable event.

Publicity

It's important that we keep Faversham people informed about our work and to that end, we post a regular newsletter in our dedicated noticeboard in the Central Car Park, post frequent features in the local press and mount displays in the library.

The Future

Faversham in Bloom is always looking to the future.  Although we have a proven record of success and community involvement, we welcome ideas, input and contributions from anyone with an interest in Faversham.  Check the links and contact details below for more information about what we do and what you can do to become involved.
