Congratulations to The Abbey Physic Community Garden

SOUTH, SOUTH EAST IN BLOOM AWARDS 2016

'It's your neighbourhood competition'

Level 5 Outstanding

The Abbey Physic Community Garden is a charity run by members in a half-acre walled garden in the heart of Faversham. We place the emphasis on the therapeutic benefits of horticultural activities.

The garden is a member-based community project with gardeners drawn from all walks of life.  An important role of the garden is to help people with mental health problems and provide relief and support to those who are socially and eonomically disadvantaged.

Through our volunteers we are able to provide and encourage activities adapted to suit the needs of our individual gardener members: to help develop life skills and coping strategies, to undertake training, achieve qualifications and to pursue employment opportunities.

The garden is member-led and is managed by a committee drawn from members and interested local residents. Sallie Shaw, former Swale in Bloom co-ordinator, was instrumental in finding the site when the garden was originally established.
